Bodegas Lustau announces the appointment of Sergio Martínez to succeed Manuel Lozano at the head of their team. After 13 years with the company Sergio takes over the exciting project of leading the bodega’s team.
Sergio Martínez knows the wines and the soleras that Lustau has built up perfectly. For over 10 years he has done the daily rounds alongside Manuel Lozano, chalk and “venencia“ in hand, along the aisles which make up the Lustau solera ageing casks. Over 10 years analysing, understanding and caring for the jewels and the secrets which are hidden between the walls of this bodega.
With this appointment, Bodegas Lustau’s goal is to maintain the winemaking line which has brought them so much success and prestige in recent years. Luis Luengo, Director of Bodegas Lustau, states “Sergio has our full backing to lead the Lustau team. There is nobody better than him to preserve the “Lustau style” and bring fresh air to the project”
Born in San Fernando (Cádiz), his childhood and adolescence was spent between the villages of the Bay of Cádiz. A great lover of nature, the sea and the wonderful beaches of the Cádiz coast. An animal lover, Sergio is an active member of the Animal Defence Association which organizes get-togethers in the country to find new homes for abandoned dogs.
A true Sherry lover, he declares Amontillado to be his favourite style. “Its complexity, the rich range of nuances and the elegance that it gains from the double ageing process makes them unique”, he says. Sergio is married and father to a daughter, soon to turn two, who has awakened in him an unexpected vocation for photography. As the Classic authors used to say, “art needs its muses.”
