Sherry wines shine in the “Decanter World Wine Awards 2020”.
The awards run by Decanter Magazine have placed two wines from Bodegas Lustau among this edition’s “Best in Show”.
More than 15 thousand wines, and a 28-day long tasting are the hallmarks of the Decanter World Wine Awards, one of the most important international wine competitions on the planet. Organised by the UK specialist wine magazine, Decanter, with the aim of selecting the world’s finest wines, 116 expert tasters – including 37 Masters of Wine and 9 Master Sommeliers – evaluated 16,518 wines from 56 countries over the month that was dedicated to the tastings. Spain won a total of 1,568 medals, including 4 “Best in Shows”, 20 Platinum medals, 68 Golds and 537 Silvers.
In this latest edition, which took place in London during August, four Spanish wines stood out in the highest category (Best in Show). Of the four wines selected, two were from Bodegas Lustau, specifically Lustau Oloroso V.O.R.S and Lustau Pedro Ximénez V.O.R.S. It is the fourth consecutive year that the first of these wines has been named “Best in Show”, and it is one of just five wines in the world to achieve 98 points in the expert tasting hosted for this edition.
Among the prizes given in this prestigious challenge, sherry wines won another six Platinum, eight Gold, 32 Silver and 22 Bronze medals. Bodegas Lustau won two Gold medals with its Amontillado del Castillo and 1992 Vintage. International critics have also been bowled over by the latter wine, the hitherto unknown side of the Palomino grape: a style of sherry that no other wineries currently produce.
