La esperada vuelta de un clásico Burdon Gin

Burdon is a brand founded in 1821 that takes the name of its founder, John William Burdon, an English gentleman who settled in El Puerto de Santa María (Cádiz) to devote himself to the trade of Sherry wines and brandy. The brand became world famous for its wines, to the point of becoming the first exporting Sherry brand in 1854. Its success and prestige was such that even King Alfonso XIII appointed John William Burdon the rank of Official Supplier of the Spanish Royal House.

Since 1932 the Burdon brand belongs to the Caballero Group, as a result of the acquisition of Bodegas José de la Cuesta, who had bought the business of John William Burdon when he decided to return to his homeland at the end of the 19th century. Two decades later, in the 50’s, Caballero introduced the first white spirits under the brand Burdon (vodka, rum and gin), at a time when all the large wineries in the Jerez had their own spirit brands.

Of all the Burdon spirits that Caballero launched in the 50’s, the gin became  the one with most commercial success. During its greatest years in the 60’s and 70’s many advertising and promotion campaigns built a recognized brand across Spanish consumers, that even had world exposure with its bottle shown in the legendary film “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly” with Clint Eastwood.

Although the brand disappeared with the turn of the last century, this 2019 is the year of its rebirth, not only with its classic and renewed Burdon Original Dry Gin, which is dry and citric, but also with two new flavors: Burdon Cerezas, made with sweet cherries, and Burdon Hierbabuena, made with refreshing spearmint.
